March to Fulfill the Dream Launches in New Orleans
ShareThis
The March to Fulfill the Dream kicked off on Easter Yesterday in New Orleans. Housing rights activists and organizers from New Orleans and across the country, including Katrina survivors, came together to support the Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign's three month long caravan to the U.S. Social Forum in Detroit. The date was also the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination. Speakers drew the connection between the March to Fulfill the Dream and Dr. King's 1968 Poor People's campaign. The Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign advances in the spirit of Dr. King's final mission to organize the poor across color lines as the leadership base for a broad movement to end poverty. On Thursday the caravan will travel to Waveland, Mississippi to meet with more Katrina survivors who are still displaced from their homes.
