Recruiting the Homeless in Birmingham

ShareThis
On April 21, 2010 the March to Fulfill the dream visited the Church of the Reconciler in downtown Birmingham and spoke to an audience of homeless people. Several folks engaged us with interest in joining our campaign and a desire to come to the U.S. Social Forum in Detroit.

At the church of the reconciler we met Titus Battle, a homeless man.

The March to Fulfill the Dream visits the Lower 9th Ward Village

ShareThis
From April 4-8, 2010 the Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign was in New Orleans on the "March to Fulfill the Dream", where they met with Ward "Mack" McClendon who runs the Lower 9th Ward Village, a community center working to restore one of the hardest hit neighborhoods from Katrina. It has been five years since the storm hit and still 75% of the community in the lower 9th ward remain displaced and many of those who have returned are still not back in their original homes or are struggling to keep their homes.

We interviewed Mack about the village and the positive steps people are making to restore the foundations of their community.
