New York, NY: Members of the Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign (PPEHRC), will hold the “March For Our Lives” rally and march on the opening day of the Republican National Convention. The rally will take place at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza Park outside of the United Nations. The group anticipates thousands to attend the rally. For the past month PPEHRC has taken the mobile “Bushville” tent city through the poorest areas of New Jersey and New York to focus attention on the impact Republican economic policies have on the poor. Since arriving in New York, the PPEHRC has established their “Bushville” encampment in Central Park and finally in Brooklyn. The group has vowed to march despite the denial of a marching permit. “I will march because this Republican administration has ignored the plight of the poor. There is a war here at home, a war caused by massive job losses, the lack of affordable housing and healthcare as well as access to adequate education. I will march to demand all the basic necessities of life," said Cheri Honkala, National Spokesperson for the Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign Who: Cheri Honkala, National Spokesperson for PPEHRC Immokalee Farmworkers (Florida) Leslie Cagan United for Peace and Justice Steve Earle Musician/ Activist Olga Vives -- National Organization of Women Bob Edgar National Council Churches Ronaldo Cassanova Long Standing Homeless Activist with AIDS Mark Webber Actor/Activist Galen Tyler- Kensington Welfare Rights Union Others When: 4pm, August 30th, 2004 Where: Dag Hammarskjold Plaza Park : 47th Street between 2nd & 1st Avenues VISIT WWW.MARCHFOROURLIVES.ORG FOR MORE INFORMATION -30- |
